We’re excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for the third and final opera in White Snake Projects’ Pandemic Trilogy: A Survivor’s Odyssey: The Journey of Penelope and Circe. Like the first two operas in the Trilogy, A Survivor’s Odyssey will premiere LIVE in cyberspace, at 7:30pm, September 24, 26 and 28, 2021.

For those who have followed White Snake’s artistic journey through the pandemic, you’ll know that we have created a Trilogy that explores current social issues in America which have been exacerbated by the pandemic. Alice in the Pandemic, the first opera focused on the disparate impacts lockdown have on people of color and our essential workers; Death By Life, the second opera, explored systemic racism exposed by the murder of George Floyd. A Survivor’s Odyssey examines what the World Health Organization has termed the “shadow pandemic,” the surge in sexual and intimate partner violence during this difficult time.

We have been thinking hard about how to re-create a robust online opera experience which will excite you the way our in-person shows have: From high production values and technical innovations to relevant stories and the camaraderie of sharing. Also the risk, yes, the risk, of live performance. For part of the thrill of live performance is the fact that the artists and the production team are taking risks in real time, with no ability to edit or “do over” missteps. Live performance tests the abilities and artistry of the team and their belief that we can create beauty fearlessly, in the moment.

A Survivor’s Odyssey is a continuation of the grand experiment to deliver all of the above, and more. We’ve invested in a tech team whose members are not just good at what they do, they’re innovators and inventors. They’re making NEW technology such as Tutti Remote, an audio plug-in that enables our performers to sing live synchronously while physically separated; and using Unreal Engine, a powerful video game platform to create immersive 3D sets which make it appear as if our performers are in the same space.

Our ticket prices reflect this work to deliver a full in-person opera experience online. They are the same ticket prices as for our in theater shows, ranging from $25 to $150,  but with several differences. First, one ticket buys entry for an entire household. Also, the range is merely suggested so you pay what you can. Finally our Ticket Access Program (TAP) removes barriers to access by providing free tickets to anyone who needs one. That said, if you normally pay the highest ticket price and can afford to, we hope you’ll do so again in recognition of the hard work and financial investment it’s taken to create this remarkable production.

The video offers a preview of the beautiful music and visuals that await you as we journey with Penelope and Circe on their Odyssey of self discovery.
