As we learned last night, when you’re preparing a world-premiere digital opera, Tech Week gets taken to a whole new level! The Internet demons were not cooperating and the inherent risk of digital performance that we had until yesterday understood only theoretically, was brought home with full force. I learned more about the vagaries of plug-in management software, bandwidth, buffering, lag, syncing, and throttling (turns out this does not mean choking or strangling someone, but the intentional slowing or speeding of internet service by an Internet service provider (ISP)). What an apt term, as I’ve yearned to throttle several ISPs.
