kt shorb, Ph.D. (they/them, ktshorb.net) is the producing artistic director of the Generic Ensemble Company and Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance at Macalester College. Directing credits include: L’incoronazione di Poppea, Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Asst Dir), She Kills Monsters, The Future of Ismael, black girl love: an adaptation project, The Women of ____ (a song, not song), 893 | Ya-ku-za, Scheherazade, and The Mikado: Reclaimed. They have been directing fellow at Wolf Trap Opera and Chicago Summer Opera. As an artist-scholar, kt’s work examines how queer people of color theatre artists enact heroic and spectacular moments that defy common-sense notions of physics. They have taught at St. Edward’s University, UT Austin, Southwestern University, and Allegheny College. kt is currently the Vice President for the Consortium of Asian American Theaters & Artists, the only national service organization for theatre artists of the Asian and Pacific Islander diaspora.
