Dear Friends of White Snake Projects:
We’re less than one month away from the premiere of Alice in the Pandemic and we’re still deep in pandemic times. The issues Jorge Sosa and I felt driven to write about are heightened, not lessened by time passing.
As a mission driven company, White Snake Projects is committed to leading the conversation on the issues that consume us today. In pandemic times, these issues include mental health, dislocation, death, and the disproportionate impact on those who are socio-economically disadvantaged. At WSP we are so thankful for essential workers, who demonstrate heroism and sacrifice by putting their lives on the line everyday so we can weather the storm safely. For the opera field, we have had to ask the questions of how to keep making opera while socially distanced, how to keep our artists working safely, and how to make new stories that speak to you.
Creating Alice is cathartic for us. We hope that it will be for you too, and that it will help us put our lives in perspective, as we experience the pandemic through the clarifying lens of art.
Be safe, be well,
Cerise and all of us at White Snake Projects, An Activist Opera Company
